So you want to grow a successful blog and business?
You need an email list.
The power of an email list is something I didn’t quite grasp until I actually took the time to build one from scratch. Over the past year and a half, I’ve grown my email list to over 2,000 subscribers. It’s truly helped me start and grow my business through my blog which is why I’m so passionate about helping blogger babes like you build an email list that can give you the same results.
So if you’re ready to turn your blog into a business and DON’T have an email list yet, keep reading. I’m breaking down three reasons why you absolutely need an email list for your business and how to get started today!

3 Super Important Reasons You Need to Focus on Building an Email List Click To Tweet
1. IT’S THE ONLY THING YOU CAN CONTROL BESIDES YOUR WEBSITE
YES, it’s true. Besides your website, your email list is the only thing you have complete control over. And as an entrepreneur, I like having some damn control over my blog and business!
This means it can’t be deleted unless YOU delete it.
Unlike social media, you OWN your email list and no one can touch it.
Then what would you do? You’d have to start from square one, again. And build up your following.
Nobody got time for that.
You need to have something solid that no one can take away from you, so that’s why it’s CRUCIAL to have not only your own self-hosted website but also an email list.
With the recent algorithm changes and drama surrounding them, it’s a great time to start one. You won’t have to stress out about:
- Mark Zuckerberg threatening to shut your page down or
- If your followers will even see it
2. IT’LL BECOME YOUR BEST SALES TOOL
When people say “the money is in the list” THEY’RE NOT LYIN Y’ALL.
With an email list, you have direct access to your subscribers via their inbox.
So when you go to launch your new eBook, you have a better chance of reaching them by email vs. social media or by checking your blog.
Your post on Instagram stories about your launch can be easily missed given the algorithms. And not everyone checks your blog every day religiously. Let’s get real on that, k?
I mean, everyone checks their email. Every damn day.
I know I do. It’s one of the first things I check in the morning (aside from Instagram of course).
I subscribe to certain newsletters because I want to keep tabs on my favorite bloggers and entrepreneurs. If they have any special promos or news, I usually hear about it through my emails. You need an email list even if you don't plan on selling anything yet! Click To Tweet
Even if you don’t plan on selling anything just quite yet that doesn’t rule you out from making an email list. It’s actually the PERFECT time to start your list so you can start building up the next reason…
3. BUILD TRUST WITH YOUR AUDIENCE
Bringing humanity into your brand is a TOP marketing tool for 2018 and many years to come.
Consumers are tired of super salesy people who only care about making money. They’re ready to buy things, but they want to buy from someone they know, like, and TRUST.
So if you want to use your email list as your sales tool, you’re going to need put some work in and build genuine relationships with your subscribers so they trust you and will want to purchase from you.
It all comes down to personal branding baby!
When you take the time to cultivate strong connections with your readers, they’ll become your loyal followers. They’re your squad.
These are the people that will always engage with and share your blog posts, show up to your webinars, and eventually purchase your first product or service. They’ll always have your back.
Before you can start throwing your sales pitch out there, you have to grow a strong relationship with your readers first.
That’s why it’s critical to start your list as soon as possible.
When I launched my eBook last year I spent months and months before my launch growing my list and showing up consistently.
I was able to not only increase my subscriber base but gain the trust of my readership who didn’t even bat an eyelash when I put my sales girl hat on.
All the time spent not having a list is wasted time that you could have been using to build your trust with your readers. You gotta give, give, give before you can take.
Ways to build trust with your subscribers:
- Providing incredible value with opt-in freebies that offer a solution to their problems relating to your niche
- Sending them through a welcome series once they become a subscriber that’s full of value and free from sales pitches
- Being consistent and showing up in their inbox with value on a regular basis
