In this post, I’m going to share three reasons why your blog should evolve over the time. You’re going to get a huge dose of inspiration, personal insight into how I deal with change, and some tips to help you move forward into making it happen.
Aren’t you glad you stumbled onto this blog post today? The Universe was lookin’ out for ya 😉
Why Do We Resist Change?
For some of us, we may struggle with allowing our blogs to shift into new directions.
While we may change our website colors and fonts every other day (come in, you know you’re guilty!) when it comes to our content, audience, and overall growth strategy, we like to fight change.
I think the biggest reason for our resistance is because change scares the hell out of us. The self-doubt starts to kick in, our mind starts coming up with a million scenarios, and we start to wonder if it’s gonna be the right move or not…
We start asking ourselves will people judge me for wanting to change? Will my audience abandon me?
To be honest, these questions pop into my head on a regular basis.
When I rebranded last year, these exact thoughts consumed me. I thought I was betraying my audience AND myself by quitting my fashion blog.
But I knew deep down that I had to make the move. Change was the only way I could find happiness.
And with that change, breathed new life.
Shifts for In Search of Sheila
In Search of Sheila has become a thriving community of like-minded bloggers, all in search of authenticity, purpose and a life full of joy and abundance.
We are connected by the same goal to grow our blogs so we can achieve our wildest dreams. That is so powerful.
I am beyond grateful and happy every single day at what I’ve been able to cultivate through my blog and brand over the past year.
But as this entire post eludes to…our blogs need to evolve over time.
Over the past few months my mind has been filled with big-picture ideas for 2018. The problem with being a dreamer is that although I can visualize where I will be at the end of this year, I personally struggle with coming up with the action steps to get there.
And then all that self-doubt creeps in. Ick.
After enlisting in support from my mastermind group, bloggers in my inner circle, my own client, a one-on-one strategy session with my mentor and my new business coach, I finally found that clarity to make some shifts in my blog to align with my business plans.
It definitely took some days to mentally prepare myself for these changes…and then another few days to find the courage to announce it to you guys. But I got through it.
I’m ready to take on this new journey.
What I found the most helpful is talking everything out with people.
Always, ALWAYS reach out to someone to help you through these kinds of things. Whether it’s free or paid. Getting another perspective is SO valuable not only to your blog but your soul as a whole.
And if you need someone to talk to, you can always book a one-on-one call with me! Let’s tackle your biggest blogging problem together.
With that said, I’m not going to go into the details of my changes in this post (I’ll save it for another) but I encourage you to follow me on Instagram, where my Insta Squad gets all the updates and behind the scenes on my blog, business, and brain.
Now that you’ve read about MY changes, let’s move on to why you should make some changes of your own.3 Reasons Why You're Blog Should Evolve Over Time Click To Tweet
1. Your Blog Should Grow as You Grow
As bloggers, we are first are foremost human beings. It’s in our nature to change and evolve over time.
That means that since we’re changing, our blogs need to change along with us.
While our blogs do exist to help our readers, they’re also a reflection of ourselves. They embody our passions, strengths, and expertise. Our blogs are a reflection of ourselves: they embody our passions, strengths, and expertise. Click To Tweet
As we expand our knowledge and find new passions, our blogs are allowed to expand as well.
Even though I rebranded less than a year ago (8 months to be exact), I have learned A WEALTH of knowledge in that span of time.
Not just about blogging, but business, personal development, productivity, mindset, the Law of Attraction, astrology, the moon cycles…
I have two degrees in history and one of my personal values is discovery…I am OBSESSED with learning new things.
On top of learning, I also love teaching what I learn. They say the best way to learn is to teach others, right?
Of all these new things I’ve been learning in the past year, most of them I do get to share with you guys in my blog posts, newsletters, and social media…
But there is still a lot I don’t get to share because it doesn’t “fit” with my focus. I’m sure you’ve probably experienced these feelings too…where you just feel like you outgrow your blog.
Well, I’ve reached that stage in my journey. And I’m not down with getting comfortable. When you get comfortable, you don’t grow. When you get comfortable, you don't grow. Click To Tweet
And I’m ALL about growing.
So that means I gotta EVOLVE.
And if I gotta evolve…that means you gotta evolve too girl.
2. Think About the Big Picture
At the root of my blogging growth strategies is keeping the end goal in mind.
You gotta think long-term. Big picture. Being in it to win it.
Where do you want your blog to be six months from now? A year? Five years? Do you have your vision mapped out?
If not, that’s 100% OKAY. Because remember, your blog can evolve over time!
- For some bloggers, you’ll need to write about different things to figure out what you like and don’t like (this is exactly what I did for years)
- You may (and should) learn new things and improve your skills to increase your expertise
- For big-picture bloggers (guilty) you know that you will need to make small shifts over time to get to where you want to be
That was definitely part of my plan. As I learn new things, my expertise grows. And as my expertise grows, I’m able to share those new things with you guys and help YOU grow your expertise.
This is why it’s SO important to build a personal brand and NOT put yourself in a box or what some people like to refer to as a “niche.”Blogger tip: build a personal brand that centers around YOU, not the topics you write about. It will allow you to evolve over time. Click To Tweet
And for the record: niche isn’t a scary word. I’m kind of on a mission to make it less scary for all you multi-passionate bloggers out there.
And if you’re all for the niches, girl I’m not knocking you either!! I’m all about following that intuition…do whatever you damn want!
When you focus on building a standout brand that highlights YOU and not what you blog about…you will allow your blog and soon-to-be business evolve with you over time.
Or what us lady bosses like to call pivot.
And that’s why I chose the name In Search of Sheila. Or as I like to say, the name In Search of Sheila chose me.
My name is more than just a blog: it’s a brand. And it will grow with me and reflect whatever I choose to focus on next!
While you don’t necessarily need to plan out the nitty-gritty details of where you want your blog to be in the 2020’s (does that sound hella weird or is it just me?) you SHOULD be thinking about your big-picture dreams and goals for your life.
Where do you want YOUR life to be five years from now? How are you going to get there?
And that’s when your blog can come into play. It’s the key to helping you reach your dreams!
3. Let Your Readers Grow With You
While it’s awesome to scale your blog and get new readers, you can’t forget about the ones that you already have in your community.
They’re growing too. Let them grow alongside you.
I LOVE watching you guys grow as I grow and know that I’ve been able to help you get to where you are now.
Like honestly, some of y’all are killing it right now, and I KNOW it’s because of me (low key bragging, but you guys tell me this and I believe it!)
With that said, I want to continue helping you grow your blogs and transform them into purposeful and profitable businesses.
And I can’t do that by sharing beginner blogging tips forever.
I’ve witnessed first hand with my own blog as well as a handful of others, the power we yield and how we can market our minds.
I want to help you guys uncover what you have to offer the world, leverage your strengths and resources, and make money doing what you LOVE and are GOOD AT, specifically through digital products and services.
I’m 100% ready to help you enter the next season of your blogging journey. The season where you transition from blogger to entrepreneur.
But the question for you is, are you ready to join me?
What to Expect Moving Forward
As I mentioned above, I won’t get into the details of all my changes. And to be honest with you, I’m still figuring out all the super specific stuff (remember, I’m a big-picture blogger?)
I’m a go with the flow kind of gal.
But ultimately, my mission is shifting to focus on helping personal development and lifestyle bloggers transform their blogs into purposeful and profitable businesses.
Businesses that are on a mission to change some damn lives.
Girl, you are SO capable of achieving this and if you are thinking “I can’t do that!” then I’m literally going to change your life.
I used to think that the only way I could monetize my blog was by working with brands and affiliate marketing.
This is such a HUGE myth so many new bloggers believe.
Then I realized I have so many strengths up my sleeves, that I could blend those strengths with my passions and actually make some money.
And not just money to helped me pay the bills. Money I knew I earned because I was impacting other women.
I want that for you too.
And I’m going to help you believe it. And then I’m going to help you do it.
If you haven’t grabbed a sample chapter from my eBook, you should definitely do that ASAP! It’s time to get the ball rolling and make those steps towards that change!
Are you ready to transform your blog into a business? Are you scared? Excited?
