How I Tripled My Blog Traffic In 30 Days

It’s been a month since I relaunched my blog, so I did my very first monthly statistic report. I’m shocked to say that I’ve tripled my traffic for the month of June!!! WHAT!!?? I’m still trying to wrap my head around it, plus I can’t stop thinking that it’s probably mostly my own page views (it’s not–I checked!) I’ve been working like crazy to drive traffic to my blog this past month, so it feels amazing to see that it paid off. Since I like sharing as much as I can on In Search of Sheila, I decided to write a blog post about it and share the exact strategies I used last month to increase my blog traffic like WHOA. Hopefully, my personal experience can provide some insight and maybe even help you develop your own growth strategy. We all want to increase our page views, don’t we?

Since I like to back up my claims with factual proof (it’s my history background, what can I say lol) here are my Google Analytics stats from May and June 2017. If the numbers are a little overwhelming, no worries. To break it down for you…in May I had 3,552 page views and in June I had 10,761. If you do the math (please double check my work, math is NOT my strong suit lol) that is just a little more than TRIPLING my traffic for the month of June. How the heck did I do this? Sit tight, I’m going to tell you in a second!

June 2017

Rebranded My Blog

A week into June I officially relaunched my blog. In Search of Sheila shifted from a fashion and lifestyle blog into a positive online space that teaches passionate lady bloggers how to blog with intention and purpose. With a brand new design and mission, my blog took a new direction to provide simple, actionable, and organic growth strategies. Since narrowing my blog’s focus, I also got super specific on my target audience. Doing this has tremendously helped me when it comes to creating content that I enjoy producing, but also helps my readers. Getting super specific with my focus and audience has definitely helped drive more traffic to my site.

Overhauled My Pinterest Strategy

June was certainly the month of taking my Pinterest game to the next level. I educated the heck out of myself,  pinned like a mad woman, and joined a ton of group boards. (I also created my own group board which you can join here!) As you can see below I just about quadrupled my Pinterest traffic for this month, and now Pinterest is one of my main sources of traffic! How did I do it?

I started posting around 50 pins a day and increased that to 100 a day, and now am back to 50 a day. You’re probably thinking I must be spending my entire day on Pinterest to pin that much, but…I’m not! The secret is scheduling. The tools I use to schedule my pins to my own account and group boards are Tailwind and BoardBoosterBoth services offer a free month’s trial so you can try them out for yourself. I do manually pin when I have some spare time (usually after work) so I suggest finding a nice balance. One other thing I want to add is that I follow the posting ratio of 80% of other people’s content and 20% of mine. The more you pin the more chances you have of getting noticed, repinned, and clicks to your blog! P.S. go follow me on Pinterest here!

I plan on doing a blog post all about how to use Pinterest to drive traffic to your blog, so if you have any specific questions please leave them in the comments or shoot me an email on my contact page.

Created a Resource Library

One addition to my blog that has been getting a lot of traffic is my free Blogger Resource Library. I added this as a way to share exclusive tips, resources, and tools only available to my email subscribers. I made the page password protected, which means people need to subscribe to my email list in order to get access. I also created a page with my favorite blogging resources, which is open to the public. As you can tell from my stats below, my resource library ranks #7 in my top posts and pages for the month of June. Another interesting thing is that my about page is pretty popular as well! People love finding out more about the blogger behind the blog, so I definitely recommend rocking the heck out of your about page.

More Active on Twitter

Man, I really love Twitter. I never used to–I actually hated it and tried to use it for my blog, but quickly abandoned it after a little while. Nowadays, I’m on it more than Instagram half the time and I actually get a pretty decent amount of traffic from it. What’s my secret? I’ve connected with other bloggers and make sure to share their posts in addition to my own! I also schedule tweets in Hootsuite and love the WordPress plugin Revive Old Posts, which automatically tweets my past posts on a random schedule.

Making the Most of Instagram Stories

Even though my Instagram growth has tanked and I’ve started to care less about the app, I’ve been making sure to regularly post more on my stories. It’s a great way to connect with your followers on a more personal level, plus it’s actually a great way to promote your content. A lot of my readers get blog updates from my stories + I like to show behind the scenes and sneak peaks to hype up my posts. Lastly, I always direct my followers to the link in my bio!

Optimized Most Popular Posts

I’ve made sure to optimize and promote my most popular posts by tweaking them a bit. I updated them with new information and photographs, added relevant affiliate links and opt-in forms when appropriate, and created multiple Pinterest images for each post. I also added links to the posts in my sidebar, link to them as much as I can in my newer posts, and include them in my thank you pages after people sign up to my email list. To see which are your most popular posts, go to Google Analytics–Behavior–Site Content–All Pages. Make sure you adjust the date range accordingly!

A Little Blog Magic

I’ve recently gotten really into growing my blog by using the Law of Attraction, visualizations, tracking the moon cycles and all that metaphysical stuff. (Shoutout to the Lively Show for opening my eyes and bringing it into my life.) If any of you are familiar with the term “woo woo” then girl, you’re on my level! I know this realm of blogging might be a little too out there for some people, but I do plan on writing a more in-depth blog post about it soon 🙂

Here’s a little story: If you follow me on Twitter or Instagram then you might know that I recently had a pretty amazing week. My very first eCourse officially launched and the number of students enrolled in it within the first few days was nearly double that of my goal for the week! On top of that, I also got a raise at work after a very successful (and my first) salary negotiation (boo-yah!!!) Oh, and ON TOP OF THAT, I won $50 in a Blog Boss Babe Pinterest challenge! It was a very abundant week I must say. I attribute all of my successes this week to the Law of Attraction and daily blog visualizations I’ve been practicing. If you’re a skeptic, you must try it for yourself because it works!

Found My Blog Squad

Lastly and most importantly, I couldn’t have tripled (or even doubled) my blog traffic this past month without the help of all my amazing blogger friends I’ve connected with. I found my squad, who are all super supportive, engaging, and just GET me. Honestly, building friendships with other bloggers is the best (and most fulfilling) way to grow your blog in my opinion. I’ve become so passionate about this growth strategy that I created a free 7-day eCourse to help you build your very own blog squad. My Build Your Blog Squad eCourse will teach you actionable and authentic strategies to grow a devoted blog audience of readers who want to learn from you, buy from you, and who just GET you.

If you’re struggling to increase your traffic and engagement, or maybe no one is clicking on your affiliate links, this course is for you! I strongly believe that setting a strong blog foundation and focusing on growing your squad is the key to blog success. I encourage you to join me in the course by clicking below!

  • Okay obsessed with this post!! #1 so happy your traffic tripled, that’s amazing.

And #2 I love the details of this. I feel like you made a lot of really smart, strategic moves. Honestly, I am going to implement some of your tips…and I can 100% be a brat about taking other people’s advice because sometimes…it just doesn’t work. But I am absolutely taking your advice to narrow it down in terms of content and revamp my Pinterest strategy!

    • Wow, thank you Katherine!! I know that there are so many “grow your traffic” posts out there, but they all seem to preach the same stuff that just doesn’t seem to work. I’m glad I can provide some out of the box thinking 🙂 Hope they work for you!

  • Brittnee Miller

These are great tips! I’m going to keep my eye out for the Pinterest post. I’m on the email list so I’ll be back.

    • Awesome!! I’m glad someone wants to read it, that will give me a kick in the butt to write it, lol!

  • YOU GO GIRL!!! Love all of these tips! I had no idea that “Revive Old Posts” existed – so totally checking that out! Also, love the law of attraction, I truly believe in that magic 🙂 I’m going to have to start pushing more *magic* towards my blog as well and try some of your tricks!

    • Thanks Stephanie! I freaking love that plugin, it’s so good!! And yasss, you’re on my level!! I toootally recommend some 1-5 minute visualizations to start. If you have any questions, let me know!

  • These tips were so helpful! I’m definitely open to trying new strategies to help my blog. I especially found the Pinterest tips to be super helpful. 🙂

    • Yess! If something isn’t working, try something new! My next post will be about Pinterest, so stay tuned 🙂

  • This was great, thank you Sheila. Just beginning to delve deeper into my site analytics, and it was so helpful to read how you walk through your analytics, and the kind of things you’ve done to influence them. Much appreciated!

    • Thanks Bri! I’m glad I could provide some insight into my strategies 🙂 I know analytics can be overwhelming at times, but knowing the important places to watch out for will help out a ton.

  • Oh wow, this is amazing! I need to implement all of these tips!!

    • Let me know how they work for you, Laura!

  • Sepideh

This is the second time I read this blogpost and I’m taking diligent notes!

I only just updated my Google Analytics unfortunately so I can’t say for sure what has worked and not worked for me, however, I see a lot of engagement with my Twitter (I’ve scheduled with Hootesuite) but I’m still finding the balance of the amount of tweets I want to post daily… I try to post daily on Instagram which I usually get a lot of engagement with (but not sure if it drives traffic to my blog…) and my next step is to tackle Pinterest because that’s something that comes up a lot so I need to get on that! I also find that leaving genuine comments on other blogs helps drive traffic but I think I need to finalize my branding and increase the quality of my blogposts to retain readers 🙂

Btw, in case you didn’t realize… LOVING the re-branding and you’re doing an awesome job with useful content!! Keep it up!!

    • Yesss, a fellow obsessive note taker!! I actually had my analytics messed up for MONTHS and was so crushed when I realized it. But no worries, as long as you have it installed now we’re all good! I learned in a webinar to post upwards of 15 times a day on Twitter, since the life span of a tweet is 18 minutes! And it sucks that we can’t directly track our Instagram views, but I believe it falls into the “direct” category on Google Analytics.

And thank you for the kind words, Sepideh! I’m super happy with how my branding turned it–it’s toootally me lol

  • WOW Sheila!! This is so helpful. Looks like I need to step up my Pinterest game!!! I really love how I have gotten to know you throughout the last few months. You are business minded and personable. I really feel like I know you so much better in such a short time. So happy for you and your growth! Keep going girl!!!!!! You are doing AMAZING!

    • Yes girl, Pinterest is the golden ticket!! And thank you for the sweetest comment like, EVER! I think it’s amazing that bloggers can connect on such a level when living miles and miles away. I hope we can meet IRL one day soon!

  • Wow congratulations! You worked really hard and it shows! These tips are super helpful so thank you for sharing them with us!

    • Thank you so much! I really wanted to crack the Pinterest code, lol!

  • That’s amazing! How exciting to be growing so much so quickly! Very helpful tips that I plan to try. Thanks for sharing!

    • Thank you Michelle! Goes to show hard work and a little strategy can definitely pay off 🙂

  • YummyLilThings

Congratulations on your traffic increase! And, thanks for the tips…this is great! My blog is still in it’s infancy (under 3 months) and I’m hearing more and more about Tailwind. I think I may take the plunge soon!

    • I’m so glad you found this helpful! I couldn’t recommend Tailwind more…it’s definitely worth the investment!
