Welcome to day 6! Can’t believe we’re nearing the end of the course. Today I’m sharing some tips to write kick ass content that your readers will love!
By the end of today’s lesson you’ll learn what goes into a compelling blog post and strategies to get it out there, noticed, and shared!
Your blog posts are the meat of your blog–it’s the main thing people come to your site for. It’s important to make sure your content is compelling, understandable to read, adds value, and can be easily shared. When brainstorming topics, think of what your target audience struggles with or questions you are frequently asked. Other ways to find topics are in Facebook groups, Pinterest, your comments section, or just straight up ask your readers!
Here are some things that go into a compelling and shareable blog post:
- Something your target audience will actually want to read
- Matches your mission statement
- Well researched
- Click-worthy title
- Includes high quality images
- Easy to read
- Includes call to action at the end
- Includes Pinterest-friendly images
I do want to stress that ensuring your posts are free of any spelling or grammar mistakes will allow you stand out as a credible source. Always proofread your posts! The free tool, Grammarly is a great way to check for mistakes you might have missed. I also recommend reading them out loud. This tactic REALLY helps me avoid typos + make sure that my sentences flow. Writing takes time and practice to improve, so the more you do it, the better you will get!
But Sheila…How do I get people to actually read my posts?!
When it comes to getting people to read your blog posts, you can’t just hit publish and expect the pageviews to roll in. You have to do a little promoting! Share it on Pinterest, Twitter, Facebook, Instagram, StumbleUpon, Google+, and with your email list. For more ways to drive traffic to your blog read this blog post.
Now that you’ve learned the criteria for what goes into shareable content, download the checklist below and use it every time you go to write a new blog post! I personally love checklists because I always seem to forget something that’s important.
Next, pick your top performing blog post and run it through this checklist. Does it meet everything on it? Is there something you could add? Edit the post! After you’ve given your top post a run through the checklist, share it in the Facebook group to promote it and get feedback from the other members!
