Bar Harbor, Maine Travel Diary Part 2: Where I Ate

Here’s part two of my Maine Travel Diary featuring the restaurants, cafes, and coffee shops I visited! I honestly ate out everyday and only had a home cooked meal twice. By the end of the trip I was sick of eating out and just wanted to go home and make my own meal (lol, dramatic). But that is part of traveling so I was very grateful to try so many different places.

Cafe this Way is a cute little breakfast (and dinner) spot with healthier focused items and vegan options. I actually ate here twice (thanks Dad) and my first time I tried the tofu scramble and coffee with soy milk. Too good! Second time I got the blueberry pancakes (Maine is known for their blueberries) with a side of fruit and chai iced tea. Perfect portions and quite satisfying!

Epi’s Pizza is a little pizza shop with hoagies, salads, soup, desserts, and also breakfast! I got the Precipe hoagie which is a perfect veggie option. I also had some chowder soup which was also really good. The roll was honestly the best toasted roll I’ve ever tried (haha) and had the most perfect crunch.

West St. Cafe is a cute little restaurant and my dad actually washed dishes here back in the early 80s when they opened (lol). We met with a family member and I tried the crab cake sandwich and fries, which was super yummy!

The Jordan Pond House is a historic attraction for visitors on the island that is part of Acadia National Park that has a restaurant and gift shop. My cousin wanted to take us out for popovers, which is a light muffin that has been traditionally made here for 100 years. We originally wanted to try popovers at a different location, but they were closed for the season. With my popover I got a coffee and I was a bit disappointed that they don’t have milk substitutes, so I just had mine with sugar. My first popover was a little burnt, but my second one was nice and fluffy. The waitress brings out a basket full of them for you to grab, so just be aware of which one you are grabbing because it can be hit or miss if it’s overdone or not.

Geddy’s was a bit of a miss for me. My dad and I made the mistake of eating here, haha. He used to frequent here ‘back in the day’ but TBH, it was way too over priced for our fried clam entrees. It has a pretty cool interior and a little gift shop down below, but I think it’s more of a tourist trap.
The Thirsty Whale was another place I ate at twice. The first time I had a fish taco wrap which was pretty good, but not the best fish tacos I’ve ever had. My best friend and I have a thing with fish tacos, so I always like to try them at different places. The second time I got a veggie burger which I highly recommend!
I tried fish tacos again at Side Street Cafe and again, not the best! They were too dry for me and needed more sauce, you know? I also had a margarita and some nachos for an appetizer that my family all shared. I was soo stuffed when we left.
Paddy’s is an Irish Pub that is a little more on the upscale side, haha. Lets just say I wouldn’t pick this place myself (a family member took us out for lunch). I needed something light this day so I opted for the Local Farmer’s Salad which included blueberries and a honey balsamic vinaigrette that was pretty yummy and some french onion soup which I didn’t care too much for, but maybe I just don’t like french onion soup!

All of my spending money went towards coffee, which was a little on the pricey side. On average, it’ll cost you around $4 for a cup of joe, depending if you go for iced (cheaper) or an espresso drink (more). Soy and almond milk were about 90 cents to a dollar which is quite ridiculous.

My favorite spot was Coffee Hound which had the cutest interior and best coffee IMO. I tried an iced vanilla coffee and hot mocha.
Another spot to try is Trailhead Cafe, which only cost $3 for an iced coffee.
The Pink Pastry Shop is an adorable bakery that is…yep, pink! I had a hard time choosing something here and decided on a chocolate chip whoopie pie, mmm! I also got a hot mocha which set me back around $5 LOL, but at least I got a super cute pink coffee cup??

I also hope this isn’t too long! I know that these types of posts aren’t my usual type of content, but it’s a part of my life that I’m happy to share with you guys. Looking back, spending a week in Maine was refreshing and I honestly kind of miss the ability to go downtown and explore all the cute little shops and restaurants. Now only if my wallet would allow me to do that all the time! Make sure to check out the rest of my trip in Part One ๐Ÿ™‚

Also, I just wanted to express my disappointment in my country after the results of our election, and how I am saddened by my home state of Pennsylvania. It’s extremely hard for me to process what this country has done and how much of a divided nation we really are. Now I can confirm the feelings and ignorance of most Americans and it’s truly disgusting. My vote for Hillary was because I care about women, people of color, the LGBTQ community, and the futures of our younger (and my) generations. I, and so many people are legitimately fearful of what is to come and some people just don’t get it. I cried this morning. I just want to go back to bed where all this isn’t real. Let this be a HUGE lesson in American history, and for the world in general.

  • Wow! Everything looks delicious. If I ever go to Maine, I'll make sure to check these places out. And yes, I am quite shock with the results too, but we have to move forward with positivity and love. ๐Ÿ™‚

  • This post has made me hunnnngry. The results shocked me too (although after Brexit can I truly be shocked by anything anymore?) I've no doubt the man will fook up eventually, hopefully sooner rather than later and he'll be removed from office. x

  • I don't even live in America but I'm with you, the election results shocked the hell out of me! I was watching them live in Aus and I couldn't believe my eyes honestly.

The pink pastry shop looks really cute but all of these look good to me, it sounds weird but the cafes and restaurants in the states look really different to the ones we have here!
